Have a Question?

Designing and building a custom home can be both exciting and overwhelming. That’s why we’ve put together this list of frequently asked questions to provide you with all the information you need to make informed decisions. Whether you’re wondering about timelines, budget, selections or construction logistics, we’ve got you covered.

On average, our in-house design team typically takes around four to six weeks to complete the initial design phase. This phase includes concept development, preliminary drawings and discussions with you to refine the design to match your lifestyle and preferences. The construction drawing stage, including engineering drawings and all associated documentation, can take anywhere from 10 to 12 weeks. However, it’s important to note that the timeline may be influenced by factors such as the complexity of your custom home design, the speed of decision-making, any additional features or modifications you wish to incorporate and whether you require a planning permit. We understand the value of time for busy professionals and we work diligently to streamline the design process without compromising the quality of your dream home.

Building timelines can vary between eight to fifteen months based on the complexity of your design and other factors. We understand the importance of time for busy professionals, so our streamlined design and build approach aims to expedite the process without compromising on quality.

Our in-house design team specialises in designing homes to match individual preferences. We’ll work closely with you to understand your aesthetic and lifestyle requirements, resulting in a home that resonates with your family’s lifestyle requirements.

Of course, we need your involvement throughout the process. We’ll coordinate site visits to accommodate your schedule, ensuring you’re connected to the progress of your dream home. There are some T&C’s associated with visiting the building site, which we explain in more detail once we get closer to construction.

We stand behind our work with warranties and ongoing support. Our commitment extends beyond completion to ensure your peace of mind and address any post-construction needs. As with anything brand new, a new home needs monitoring for the first few months to make sure everything is as it should be. We will come back after 90 days to complete a maintenance inspection and rectify any issues, if required.

Whether you require a planning permit for your custom home depends on several factors, including the specific location of your property, the size and scope of your project, and local zoning regulations. To determine if you need a planning permit, it’s advisable to consult with our team at Crown. We have experience navigating the permit process in the north east Victoria area and we can provide guidance based on your project’s specific requirements. We’ll work closely with you to ensure that all necessary permits and approvals are obtained, making the process as smooth as possible.

As a one-stop solution for busy professionals, our integrated design and build model provides a single point of contact. This approach not only saves you time but also ensures a cohesive vision from start to finish. We maintain open and transparent communication throughout the entire process. You’ll be informed of progress, timelines, and any potential changes, ensuring that you’re always in the loop.

As a custom home builder, Crown does not adhere to standard practices like volume builders. We understand that your dream home should be a reflection of your unique style and needs. Unlike volume builders who offer cookie-cutter solutions, we provide customised packages tailored to your individual preferences. We believe that every homeowner is unique, and your home should reflect that. Instead of offering standard designs, we have an in-house design team dedicated to creating a home that aligns perfectly with your lifestyle and vision.

Our packages are far from “standard.” We work closely with you to understand your specific requirements and desires, ensuring that every aspect of your home is tailored to your liking. While our packages provide a strong foundation, they are by no means rigid. We offer a wide range of customisation options, allowing you to choose materials, finishes, fixtures and design elements that suit your taste.

Our in-house design team specialises in designing homes to match individual preferences. We’ll start by understanding your style, preferences, and lifestyle needs through detailed discussions and consultations. Collect images, magazine clippings, or digital inspiration that showcase your preferred design elements, colour schemes, and architectural features. Sharing these with our design team can provide a visual guide to your unique style.

We encourage you to actively participate in the design process. Attend design meetings with our team to review and refine your custom home plans. Your feedback and input are invaluable in shaping the design to your liking. Stay engaged and communicate openly with our team throughout the design process. Regular updates and discussions ensure that your style preferences are consistently integrated into the project. Our design team can provide 3D renderings and visualisations of your custom home design. This allows you to visualise the final outcome and make any necessary adjustments to match your style.

As a custom home builder, we do not have a standard square metre rate because each home is tailored to your individual preferences and needs. The intricacy of the design, including architectural details and unique features, can impact the cost. Your choice of materials, finishes, fixtures and fittings will have a direct bearing on the final price. The specific characteristics of your building site, including its location and topography, can affect construction costs. Opting for energy-efficient features and sustainable building practices may have an impact on the budget.

Our commitment is to deliver a custom home that not only meets but exceeds your expectations, and our pricing reflects the individuality and quality of your project. We prioritise transparency and open communication throughout the process to ensure that you have a clear understanding of the costs associated with your one-of-a-kind custom home.
