Here at Crown Constructions we love this time of year, as it gives us the chance to plan ahead and consider the innovations we will bring for our clients and build their dream homes with confidence! We understand how overwhelming and confusing the design process can be for clients, which is why we want to make your life easier.

So if you’re considering designing and building your new home in 2023, we’ve put together some ideas to mull over for you.

Updated Mid-Century

Mid-century modern has been given a contemporary update! Interior designers have been combining the classic 70s vibes with bold shapes and hints of modern flair.

Recycled, vintage and repurposed materials can all come together to create something unique. Another way to spruce up your mid-century modern interiors is to borrow some inspiration from another era that’s trending: Art Deco. This could mean playing with exotic wood, lacquer, leather, luxurious embellishments, and a mix of metals for a sophisticated touch.

Contrasting textures

Add some personality to your space with hypertextuality, a trend which involves utilising a range of patterned and textured design elements. After all, this year is less about sheer functionality and more about turning your home into your own art gallery. Decorative glass panels, resin, marble, wall mouldings and asymmetrical wallpaper. The possibilities are endless with rich and tactile materials that are appealing to us in 2023.

We are also predicting that marble and natural stone will crop up on our surfaces – especially in the bathroom and kitchen, making a major impact on a countertop, or on your bathroom floor and walls. Lime plaster walls and finishes, brick, and natural wood are all materials to watch out for, as well as colourful tiles for a homey, cottage aesthetic.

Minimalism and wabi-sabi

Taking inspiration from the Japanese principles of wabi-sabi, minimalism is finding new life in 2023. A departure from the clean lines of the last decade and a shift towards raw elegance, the philosophy and style of wabi-sabi is about embracing imperfection, and raw, stripped back aesthetics.

Look into materials such as a natural oak and teak, complete with visible cracks and rustic knots, as well as unstructured edges for that charming farmhouse vibe. This kind of timber is ideal because it’s not mass-produced; every version is unique and not an exact replica. You could also opt for brutalist concrete touches or weathered-look wallpaper in neutrals for an effortless and unfinished look.

Natural materials for benchtops and splashbacks

More and more, home designers are reaching for natural, raw and unrefined materials to transform their interior spaces. And they’re starting to borrow from the ethos of biophilic design, where nature is invited into your home. Synthetic materials are on their way out, and there are many ways you can invite the natural feel into your kitchen: terracotta tiles, stone, and timber are bringing calm and natural vibes to the kitchen.

At Crown Constructions, we are here to support you through your design and build journey to deliver a stress-free and enjoyable experience.
